#053: Connecting The Mind, Body and Soul Through Dance [Podcast]

connecting the mind, body and soul through dance

Connecting the mind, body and soul through dance makes movement meaningful.   A deep connection of dance from within and extending out to express, is what it’s about in this week’s session of The DancePreneuring Studio.

Session Summary

  • Step to Success: A step to your success is anything that moves your life and business forward.  Whether it’s an app, a book or an idea, you can apply something today that can help you succeed.  More often than not, when I am in content creation mode, whether it’s for a business project or a dance project, I have to let it go so it can flow. What I mean by that is that after focused, concentrated effort, I need to let it go for a time period, come back to it, and then I have new ideas and applications. I used to feel I couldn’t take breaks and sometimes I still feel that way, but I am finding this approach is more effective. Check out this article from Scientific American that talks about the importance of breaks.
  • Dancer’s Dialect: Kick ball change was one of the first technical steps that I learned when I first started taking jazz class when I was 14 years old in Guam.  I remember being so excited and proud to learn a technical step. I used to go around my house doing this step. Check out this video so you can see how simple a kick ball change is.

Regardless of its simplicity, I felt so accomplished. This reminded me to remember the excitement of learning something new and I get this way a lot now as I am working on different order cipro 500 mg things in dancing, doing other conditioning or hot yoga.
  • Freestyle Flow: I am so glad the timing for the release of this interview worked out because The Haus of Royals, the dance company of my featured guest Ricky Alvarez, will be a part of a production from Halo Dance for Autism this upcoming weekend on Saturday, January 23rd 2016. This organization utilizes the art of dance to promote awareness, knowledge, and funding for professional support to families affected by autism. I have linked their site below.  If you are in the Southern California area, it’s in Orange County showtimes at 1 and 5pm.  Tickets start at $20. If you can’t attend, check out their site as they take donations as well. Again, this wonderful art of dance is the medium used to give to a worthy cause.
  • Feature Presentation:  I love these conversations! Ricky Alvarez, Artistic Director of The Haus of Royals, shares the importance of finding the connection of mind, body and soul within yourself, the fusion of dance with other art mediums, and using dance to give back to the community.

Question: What art form or medium do you like to see dance combined with?
