What's That Smell!?
My nose is irritated, my eyes start tearing and I feel a headache coming on.
Why?
Because I just walked past the dreaded perfume counter in a department store.
And no thank you, I don’t want a sample.
I politely refused the sample and I still wreak of a weird, synthetic combination of flowers, patchouli and alcohol.
It’s like you can’t get the scent out of your nose and off your clothes, right?
No offense if you are a perfume aficionado.
But please take it easy on the perfume–a little goes a long way.
My preference is towards pure essential oils.
Even better is when I walk past someone who smokes. Not.
Have you noticed that you can smell like smoke, when you’re in an environment of smokers? Even if you don’t smoke.
Whether you’re smelling like smoke or perfume – What is your scent?
What are you leaving behind so that people remember you in the most positive way?
Are they repulsed because you are initially pleasant but overpowering like how perfume can be?
Or do they immediately retract as if you were blowing smoke in their cheap tramadol no prescription needed face because you don’t have people skills?
On the other hand, imagine you come in contact with someone you admire, perhaps a mentor, and after they’ve left you, their positive presence lingers and you feel encouraged, joyful and inspired.
To leave a positively lingering scent with others, incorporate the following:
1. Wake up thankful with a grateful attitude. Thank the people that serve you throughout your day. You don’t know how far a kind word or gesture will go.
2. Spend time reading positive material. Don’t preach it, model it. It will rub off on others.
3. Listen intently and be interested in what the other person has to say when conversing with them.
4. Be around people that inspire and challenge you – even if by podcast, audio or video.
5. Be kind and forgiving of shortcomings. You don’t know what the other person is going through.
Were there any interactions you had with people who left a positive lingering impression on you? What did they do to make themselves memorable? I would love to get your feedback.
