How I Swallowed A Camel

Have you ever swallowed a camel?

And the after taste is so strong that you have it for days, or even longer?

I have, but not the way that you think.

Let me explain.

Check out these following verses from the Bible:

“Woe to you teachers of the law and the Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices–mint, dill and cumin.  But you have neglected the more important matters of the law–justice, mercy and faithfulness.” Matthew 23:23

“You strain your water so you won’t accidentally swallow a gnat, but you swallow a camel. ” Matthew 23:24

camelJesus is referring to the hypocrisy that leaders of that day were more concerned about outward things, yet failed to demonstrate more important qualities.

The following verse goes on to say this:

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.”

So the water might have been served in the cleanest cup, but the attitude in which it was served was unclean.

Several verses after that, Jesus continues to speak of the hypocrisy of actions done with the wrong motive.

I have swallowed that camel and it was not tasty.  Just cheap tramadol 200mg like the possible side effects of a prescription drug, these were the side effects:

  • I would get visibly upset at a driver that would cut me off, while having a prominent sign on the back of my car that proudly professed my Christianity.
  • I would profess all the goodness of God, yet be unkind, critical and unforgiving to those who offended me.
  • My business agenda was to see how much I could sell to a potential client, without regard if what I had to offer would actually help solve their problem.

Yup, I was so concerned about not swallowing that gnat, I swallowed that camel.

And the aftertaste caused me to stumble instead of grow in all the important areas of my life and business.

So the lesson is, if you swallow a camel spit it out immediately!

  • Reward progress, not perfection, within yourself in the areas you want to improve.
  • Treat everyone as someone important because they are, simply because God created them.
  • Choose to love others even when they are not lovable.

What lessons can you pass along so that our priorities are aligned? I would love to hear your feedback!
